About Knowles Mechanical
A local company, a licensed crew and two decades of mechanical work in buildings that have to keep running through a Maine winter.
Built on repeat customers, not advertising.
Knowles Mechanical started as a small mechanical contractor working out of Vassalboro. Two decades later the trucks are newer, the crew is larger and the work has grown to include commercial mechanical packages and solar contracting — but the operating principle has not changed: do the job correctly, quote it honestly, and answer the phone when a customer calls back.
Our technicians handle both sides of the trade. That means the same company that installs a high-efficiency boiler in a farmhouse also maintains rooftop units and hydronic systems for commercial buildings, schools and municipal facilities across nine counties.
- One accountable team — the person who quotes your project is responsible for how it finishes.
- Factory-trained technicians on current heating, cooling and control equipment.
- Local stock and local crews, so repairs are not waiting on a truck from three states away.
TWENTY YEARS OF MAINE MECHANICAL WORK
Commercial capability, small-company accountability.
Sixteen licensed technicians, fully stocked service vehicles and a shop in Vassalboro — placed centrally enough to reach Augusta, Waterville, Bangor, Lewiston and Portland the same day.
How WeWork
The standards our customers feel before they can name them — on the estimate, on the job site and after the invoice.
Craftsmanship first
Neat piping, sealed penetrations, labeled valves and equipment installed so the next technician can service it without guessing.
Straight answers
Written estimates, options explained in plain language, and a recommendation that considers repair cost against remaining equipment life.
Code and safety
Combustion testing, proper venting, refrigerant handling and permits pulled where required. No shortcuts hidden behind drywall.
Answer the phone
After-hours calls reach a technician, not a call center. Emergency heat and water issues get a real response, not a next-week appointment.
Local knowledge
We know how coastal humidity, inland cold snaps and older housing stock affect equipment — and we design around it.
Family owned
No franchise script and no commissioned salespeople. Decisions are made here, by people who live in the communities we serve.

Work with a crew that answers the phone.
Whether it's a furnace that quit in January, a commercial building that needs a mechanical package, or a maintenance plan to keep both running — start with a conversation and a written estimate.
